A former reporter, editor and publisher, I began to focus on the potential for online publishing and new media in 1995.

In 1996, armed with a business plan for a new media venture in my hometown, I convinced a small local publisher that he could make money in the online publishing business. Two-and-a-half years later, the dynamic travel guide and local forum we developed has equalled his print publications in revenue.

In addition, Beach-Net! (http://www.beach-net.com) draws more than 200,000 visitors a month who buy products and services from the 175 local businesses we have placed online with everything from 600-page catalogs to 2-page brochures. Some of Beach-Net!'s clients realize as much as 50 percent of their monthly sales volume online.

Our editorial efforts have even been lauded by The Washington Post, BellAtlantic.Net, and Mid-Atlantic Country Traveler magazine.

We've accomplished all of this despite stiff competition from a half-dozen other local and regional Web site design services, and despite the local new media efforts of TV stations, Internet Access Providers, and a multi-national publishing corporation.

My current project involves building an online travel guide and separate online news sites for a joint effort of two newspaper companies in Monmouth County, New Jersey. The online sales effort will begin in mid-April 1999.

I've learned this business from the ground up and have worked in every facet of online publishing from sales to page building and search engine marketing.

My expertise in online publishing has been recognized by Free Paper Publisher magazine, which published my tips for starting a profitable online publication in its August 1998 issue.
